DESCRIPTION:Do you have broken household items that you were planning to throw away? Instead\, bring it to Fix It Fun! Fix It Fun\, a free community repair event\, will take place on Saturday\, November 9\, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bennington Free Library\, 101 Silver Street\, Bennington. Bring a clean broken household item and one of our fixers will do their best to help repair it for free. \nFix It Fun is the second annual event co-sponsored by the Bennington County Solid Waste Alliance and the Bennington Free Library. Community repair events reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill by promoting repair and reuse. Instead of throwing items away\, we can appreciate the value in our possessions by reusing them\, which saves money and resources\, and contributes to a more sustainable society. \nVolunteer fixers are needed to fix household items that community members bring for repair. All kinds of fixers are welcome\, including clothing and fabric\, small appliances\, small furniture\, toys\, electrical items\, jewelry\, and more! DESCRIPTION:The Bennington County Solid Waste Alliance (BCSWA) is currently developing an update to its Solid Waste Implementation Plan (SWIP). \nThe SWIP is intended to fulfill the requirements of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources Materials Management Plan (MMP)\, “…the purpose of which is to provide a framework for the State and its citizens to prevent waste from being generated and expand reuse\, recycling\, and composting efforts to attain Vermont’s statewide goals over the next 5 years. The 2025 SWIP update will: \nOutline local actions and develop a timeline for those actions that will be undertaken to be satisfy the requirements of the Vermont Materials Management Plan. \nCalculate the local disposal rates for the region\, including total disposal rate per capita and the overall waste disposal rate. \nList all existing Solid Waste Facilities and other locations where the public can dispose of landfill banned waste items and outline the siting criteria for new Solid Waste Facilities in the region. \nList and summarize local ordinances pertaining to solid waste management and waste hauling. \nConform with the Regional Plan and local emergency management plans. \nContact information for all solid waste haulers and a list of services they provide. \nTwo public meetings will be held to receive community feedback on the SWIP: \nTuesday\, April 1st at 6PM at the Manchester Community Library\, 138 Cemetery Rd.\, Manchester\, VT \nThursday\, April 10th at 6PM at the Bennington Free Library\, 101 Silver St.\, Bennington\, VT \n  \nA draft copy of the 2025 SWIP is available here for review in advance of the meetings.\nIf you cannot attend the meeting and you would like to leave a comment please contact Scott Grimm-Lyon at sgrimmlyon@bcrcvt.org

The 2025 SWIP update will: \nOutline local actions and develop a timeline for those actions that will be undertaken to be satisfy the requirements of the Vermont Materials Management Plan. \nCalculate the local disposal rates for the region\, including total disposal rate per capita and the overall waste disposal rate. \nList all existing Solid Waste Facilities and other locations where the public can dispose of landfill banned waste items and outline the siting criteria for new Solid Waste Facilities in the region. \nList and summarize local ordinances pertaining to solid waste management and waste hauling. \nConform with the Regional Plan and local emergency management plans. \nContact information for all solid waste haulers and a list of services they provide. \nTwo public meetings will be held to receive community feedback on the SWIP: \nTuesday\, April 1st at 6PM at the Manchester Community Library\, 138 Cemetery Rd.\, Manchester\, VT \nThursday\, April 10th at 6PM at the Bennington Free Library\, 101 Silver St.\, Bennington\, VT \n  \nA draft copy of the 2025 SWIP is available here for review in advance of the meetings.\nIf you cannot attend the meeting and you would like to leave a comment please contact Scott Grimm-Lyon at sgrimmlyon@bcrcvt.org
